Prof Mark Guzdial is the inventor of the Media Computation approach to learning introductory computing, which uses contextualized computing education to attract and retain students. Media Computation is an approach for computing that manipulates digital media - pictures, websites, sound and video.
He is currently vice-chair of the ACM Education Board and is a prominent member of SIGCSE, being the Symposium Co-Chair for SIGCSE 2009. He was the original developer of the CoWeb (or Swiki), which is now one of the most widely used Wiki engines in Universities around the world. He developed Emile, an environment for high school science learners programming multimedia demonstrations and physics simulations.
Along with Dr Barbara Ericson, Mark has kindly agreed to run the pre-conference workshop on Contextualised Approaches to Computing Education. The details of the workshop can be accessed from the pre-conference workshop tab on the navigation bar on the left of this page.
