Abstract:
In this talk Professor Alistair Moffat discusses a number of issues that can help (or hinder) the way your ARC application is received by reviewers and referees, based on his experience as a member of the Mathematics, Information Technology, and Communications (MIC) Expert Advisory Committee of the Australian Research Council.
About the speaker:
Professor Alistair Moffat has been at the University of Melbourne, Australia, since 1986 as a teacher and a researcher. He is the co-author of two books on compression and information retrieval ("Managing Gigabytes: Compressing and Indexing Documents and Images, Morgan Kaufmann, second edition, 1999; and "Compression and Coding Algorithms", Kluwer, 2002), and more than one hundred refereed research papers.
His most recent project is an introductory text "Programming, Problem Solving, and Abstraction with C"), published by Pearson SprintPrint in early 2003. His primary research interests are in the indexing and retrieval of large volumes of text and other information; compression; sorting and graph algorithms; and computing education. Professor Moffat has published more than 100 refereed papers, and is an active member of computer science community, and is a member of the Australian Research Council's Expert Advisory Community.
