The Web has transformed computing and the way ordinary people interact.
The Web discipline undertakes teaching and research into technologies
supporting the Web and for building web-related applications.
Key to the Web are document markup and delivery standards
such as HTML, XML, and HTTP. Document lifecycle management is vital
to the development and maintenance of large websites.
Successful e-commerce requires advances in web security and internet forensics,
as well as engineering web services based on standards such as SOAP and UDDI.
Similarly extending the reach and utility of the Web relies on improving
accessibility, usability, semantics and retrieval.
The Web supports many multimedia applications and the discipline
conducts research into digital media technology including watermarking,
image and video retrieval, and mobile devices.
The Web has enabled the growth of online education, hence the importance
of both technologies and methodologies supporting online learning.
